What the hiring manager says:

‘Artificial intelligence is reshaping economies around the world but unlocking its potential in low- and middle-income countries requires robust evidence, practical insights and strong collaboration across the ecosystem. As an Insights Analyst in the EmergingTech programme, you'll join a collaborative team exploring how AI and emerging technologies can drive sustainable development. You'll contribute to research that informs industry, policymakers and donors, while developing your expertise in one of the fastest-evolving areas of technology and international development. This role is ideal for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys solving complex problems and wants to contribute to research with real-world impact.’

About the Team:

GSMA Mobile for Development (M4D) is a dedicated global team within the GSMA, which brings together our mobile operator members, tech innovators, the development community and governments, to prove the power of mobile in emerging markets. The GSMA EmergingTech programme accelerates sustainable development and climate action by fostering the adoption of AI and emerging technologies in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We work with innovators across the public, private and third sectors to support the development and scaling of inclusive and responsible AI solutions.

About the role:

As an Insights Analyst, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality research on AI and emerging technologies, helping generate evidence and insights that help address real-world challenges in LMICs. Working alongside a team of researchers and specialists, you'll contribute to every stage of the research process, from evidence gathering and analysis through to stakeholder engagement, publication and dissemination. You'll help produce research that is rigorous, practical and influential, working with innovators, mobile operators, governments, researchers and development partners. Whether contributing to reports, analysing emerging trends, interviewing ecosystem stakeholders or developing presentations, you'll help translate complex technological developments into insights that inform decision-making.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Support qualitative and quantitative research on AI and emerging technologies, including literature reviews, desk research and interviews, while working closely with Insights Managers and Senior Insights Managers.
  • Analyse and synthesise research findings, contributing to reports, blogs, presentations, briefing papers and other knowledge products for industry, policymakers and development partners.
  • Support the delivery of research projects by coordinating project activities, managing timelines and documentation, and liaising with external research partners and suppliers to help deliver high-quality outputs on time.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings by identifying relevant events and engagement opportunities, supporting webinars, workshops and conference activities, and developing presentations and other communication materials.
  • Monitor developments in AI and emerging technologies, identifying relevant evidence, case studies and emerging trends that strengthen the programme's research and thought leadership.
  • Work collaboratively across the EmergingTech programme and the wider M4D team, contributing to cross-programme research, events, thought leadership and knowledge sharing.

About You:

We're looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, digital innovation and international development. You'll bring strong research skills, excellent written communication and experience in (or a desire to learn about) emerging technologies and their application in low- and middle-income countries. While prior experience in every aspect of our work isn't expected, you'll be motivated to learn quickly and develop expertise in a collaborative environment.

We welcome applications from individuals with the following demonstrated qualifications and skills:

  • Demonstrable experience conducting or supporting qualitative and/or quantitative research, using appropriate research methodologies and synthesising evidence into clear, evidence-based insights.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex evidence, apply structured approaches to research questions and extract meaningful insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing reports, presentations or other research outputs and communicating complex technical concepts in clear and accessible language.
  • Understanding of, or strong interest in, AI, emerging technologies and their application in international development. Familiarity with the mobile ecosystem or broader digital development landscape would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and contributing to multiple research projects.
  • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders from different sectors and cultural contexts.
  • A proactive and intellectually curious approach, with a willingness to learn, take initiative and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

About your skills:

This role is based on the following core capabilities:

  • Analysis – Analysis is central to this role, enabling the interpretation of evidence, identification of trends and translation of complex information into clear, actionable insights that underpin high-quality research.
  • Communication – Essential for producing high-quality research outputs and communicating complex technical concepts clearly to audiences across industry, government and the development ecosystem.
  • Delivery – Strong delivery skills ensure research activities are effectively managed, priorities are balanced and outputs are delivered to a high standard.
  • Agility – Agility is essential in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, enabling continuous learning, adaptability and responsiveness to emerging developments.
  • Teamwork – Teamwork is fundamental to the way we work, supporting effective collaboration with colleagues and partners across GSMA and the wider ecosystem.
