Are you passionate about supporting young learners and ready to make a difference in a Year 1 classroom?

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated full-time Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Bournemouth. You will provide 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism and behavioural needs, helping them access the curriculum and thrive in their learning environment. This is a fixed-term position running from September 2025 to July 2026, with a trial day scheduled for the first day back in September to ensure the right fit for both the school and candidate.

Main Responsibilities of a Year 1 Teaching Assistant (Year 1 TA):

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with Autism and behavioural challenges
  • Assist in creating a calm, structured environment that promotes positive behaviour and engagement
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement individual support plans
  • Support the pupil’s emotional wellbeing and help them participate fully in classroom activities
  • Monitor progress and contribute to ongoing assessment and planning

Key Requirements for Year 1 Teaching Assistant (Year 1 TA):

  • Previous experience working with children in any capacity, such as nursery practitioner, sports coach, childminder, or care background
  • A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding and patience to support a child with Autism and behavioural needs
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
