Are you a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs ?
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative education setting in Market Weighton , supporting students across KS3 and KS4 .
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with young people who may find a traditional school environment challenging and benefit from a practical, individualised and relationship-led approach .
About the Setting
The provision combines of 2 sights withclassroom-based education with practical and activity-based learning , helping students develop academically, socially and personally.
Alongside the educational provision, students have access to an outdoor setting where they can take part in activities such as:
- Mountain biking
- Canoeing
- Outdoor and nature-based activities
- Practical learning
- Team-building and confidence-building activities
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support students both in the classroom and during practical activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 with their learning and development.
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
- Supporting students with SEMH, behavioural and additional needs.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
- Using positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement.
- Helping students manage emotions and behaviour.
- Supporting confidence, resilience and independence.
- Assisting with classroom and practical activities.
- Supporting students during outdoor and activity-based sessions.
- Maintaining clear boundaries and consistent expectations.
- Promoting a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient and confident working with young people who may display challenging behaviour or struggle within traditional education.
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- SEMH Teaching Assistant
- Behaviour Support Worker
- SEN Teaching Assistant
- Learning Support Assistant
- Youth Worker
- Residential Support Worker
- Sports Coach
- Mentor
- Support Worker
Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, ASC, ADHD or additional needs would be advantageous.
Most importantly, you will be able to build positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries and provide consistent support.
Due to the location and nature of the provision, a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
