About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide practical and emotional support to students in the classroom and one-to-one settings. You’ll help students manage behaviour, engage with the curriculum, and develop important social and emotional skills. Your contribution will help build a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in both classroom and 1:1 settings, encouraging participation and engagement.
  • Implement individualised support plans in collaboration with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills through structured interventions.
  • Build trusting relationships, acting as a role model and mentor for students.
  • Record and monitor student progress, engagement, and behaviour according to school policies.
  • Assist with personal care where necessary, maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, SEND coordinators, and other professionals to provide holistic support.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or similar needs, ideally in a school environment.
  • Understanding of SEMH challenges and effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students with challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to adapt to individual needs and work effectively as part of a team.
