Are you passionate about inclusion and experienced in supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? GSL Education are seeking a SEND Practitioner to work at a thriving Secondary School located in York, North Yorkshire with a September 2025 start date.

As a SEND Practitioner, you will work closely with the SENDCo, teaching staff, and wider pastoral teams to support students with EHCPs and additional learning needs. Your role will involve delivering targeted interventions, contributing to support plans, and helping create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all.

  • The school consists of students aged 11-18 has been graded to be ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED in their quality of education, personal development, leadership and management and their sixth-form provision.

  • For SEN children who require adaptations to accommodate their requirements, the school ensures access arrangements are in place to support their normal approach of working and, when necessary, deploys teaching assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions for students with SEND.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of EHCPs.
  • Support students in the classroom to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their potential.
  • Work with teachers to adapt materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Promote inclusion and positive behaviour across the school.
  • Monitor and record progress, contributing to regular reviews and assessments.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in a school or educational setting.
  • Have a strong understanding of a range of special needs and how to meet these in the classroom.
  • Strong understanding of a range of additional needs, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and behaviour management skills.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, child development, or SEND support (desirable).
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service, or be willing to complete one through GSL Education
