Salary Range: £90-£105 per day (Depending on experience)

Contract: Full-time and Long-Term
Working Hours: 8:30 am to 3:45 pm

GSL Education are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) with expertise in Special Educational Needs (SEN) support to join a fantastic school in Tower Hamlets . This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of children with additional learning needs.

About the role:

In the role of a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a pivotal role in the classroom, working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to ensure students receive high-quality, individualised support. The position requires an empathetic, patient and proactive approach to assist students with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex needs. You will also provide personal care support, including assistance with nappy changing, where necessary.

Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN , helping them engage with the curriculum.
  • Assist with personal care needs, including nappy changing, ensuring a comfortable and dignified experience for students.
  • Implement tailored learning strategies and interventions to support academic progress.
  • Encourage social and emotional development, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Adapt teaching materials and classroom activities to meet individual needs.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Support students with mobility and physical needs, including assisting with movement around the school.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and parents to ensure holistic student development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and support strategies.
  • Promote independence and self-confidence among students, encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Requirements of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  • Previous experience working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant or supported previously with complex needs within an educational or care setting.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, a Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting children with a range of SEN, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language difficulties and physical disabilities.
  • Use child-centred approach.
  • Able to support on a 1:1 basis.
  • Need to be resilient and proactive.
  • Have a confident and personable aura.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
