Teaching Assistant - Year 6 (SEMH/ADHD Support)

Location: Wirral (CH60-CH63)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (until Christmas)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Are you a skilled and experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background in supporting pupils with SEMH and ADHD? This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key pastoral support role within a dedicated Year 6 team at a welcoming primary school in Wirral, starting immediately and continuing until the Christmas.

About the Role:

You’ll work with two Year 6 pupils requiring intensive, structured support to engage with the curriculum and regulate their emotions. Your day will include a mix of classroom-based support, 1:1 interventions, sensory circuits, and proactive behaviour management techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH and ADHD tendencies to access learning
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and consistently
  • Adapt learning activities to suit emotional, sensory, and communication needs
  • Use strategies such as brain breaks, sensory tasks, and targeted language development
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant experience working in SEMH or specialist SEND settings
  • Confident handling challenging behaviours - Team Teach training highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies and curriculum adaptation
  • Calm, proactive, and nurturing in approach with strong communication skills
  • Able to start immediately and commit through to Summer 2026

Please note:

This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. All applicants must have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service and two professional references covering the last two years.
