Job Description:

SEMH Learning Support Assistant – Chelmsford – £90 to £130/day – September Start

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have patience, empathy, and resilience to support learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming post-16 college in Chelmsford this September.

This role is within a further education environment, working with students aged 16+ as they prepare for their next steps—be it further study, apprenticeships, or entering employment. You will help learners overcome barriers, develop life skills, and build confidence.

The Role:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to learners with SEMH needs, adapting strategies to meet individual requirements.
  • Support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them stay engaged, focused, and motivated.
  • Collaborate with tutors, support staff, and the SENCO to implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interactions.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.

About You:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or additional needs (school, college, or youth work setting) is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport quickly.
  • Patience, adaptability, and quick thinking in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player passionate about inclusive education and student well-being.
