GSL Education Hull are currently seeking a passionate and practical Mechanical / Practical Tutor to join a specialist school in Hull.
The school supports young people who may find traditional classroom education challenging, providing a more personalised and practical approach to learning. The successful tutor will have the opportunity to use their practical skills and experience to engage students, build confidence and develop valuable vocational skills.
The role will involve working with 14-19 years, delivering engaging, hands-on sessions in areas such as mechanics, engineering, motor vehicles or other practical/vocational subjects.

- A specialist, independent school supporting young people aged 14-19 who benefit from a more personalised approach to education.
- Provides a safe, calm and supportive environment for students with SEMH, SEND and other additional needs.
- Uses small-group teaching and personalised support to help young people re-engage with education and build confidence.
- Strong focus on practical and vocational learning, including Mechanics/Motor Vehicle Studies and Construction.
- Supports students to develop independence, employability and life skills, preparing them for further education, training or employment.
The Role as a Practical Tutor:
- Deliver practical and engaging sessions to KS3 and KS4 students.
- Support students to develop vocational, practical and employability skills.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
- Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs.
- Support students with SEMH and SEND needs.
- Help students develop confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.
The Ideal Mechanical Tutor will:
- A practical background in mechanics, engineering, motor vehicles, construction or a related trade.
- Previous experience working with young people is desirable.
- Experience of working with SEMH/SEND students or within Alternative Provision is advantageous.
- Patient, approachable and confident managing challenging behaviour.
- Passionate about using practical learning to engage young people.
- Able to create a safe, structured and positive learning environment.
