Are you passionate about empowering young adults with special educational needs to thrive beyond the classroom? GSL Education are currently seeking a Post 16 Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic and inclusive educational setting in Poole.

About the School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to learners aged 16–25+ with special educational needs during vocational and enterprise-based activities.
  • Assist in delivering practical lessons in areas such as horticulture, animal care, agriculture, and equine skills, helping students engage with hands-on learning.
  • Support students in developing essential life and employability skills, promoting independence and confidence in real-world settings.
  • Help implement and monitor personalised learning plans and education, health and care plans (EHCPs), ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment across the school’s rural campus, encouraging communication, social development, and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with teachers, instructors, and external professionals to ensure consistent support and progress for all learners.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people or adults with special educational needs, particularly those with autism, learning difficulties, or communication needs.
  • An interest in vocational learning and the ability to support students in practical, hands-on activities such as horticulture, animal care, or equine work.
  • Confidence working outdoors in a rural environment across a large 350-acre campus, in all weather conditions.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and staff.
  • A patient, flexible, and proactive attitude with a willingness to adapt to individual learner needs and classroom dynamics.
  • Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
