GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a school setting in Newcastle. This role involves providing 1:1 support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them engage in learning, manage their emotions, and develop confidence and independence.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to meet individual pupil needs. You will support students with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs, including those who may display challenging behaviour or require personal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with SEND.
- Support students with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
- Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Help pupils manage emotions, engage in learning, and develop independence.
- Build trusting and consistent relationships with students.
- Adapt support to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
- Provide personal care support where required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Experience in behaviour management and supporting challenging behaviour.
- Understanding of emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies.
- A patient, resilient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.
- Confidence providing consistent 1:1 support.
- Willingness to provide personal care where required.
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
