GSL Education Hull are currently seeking a Motor Vehicle Tutor / Mechanic to join a specialist educational setting in Hull.
The setting provides a practical, supportive and personalised learning environment for young people who may have struggled to engage with mainstream education. The provision combines academic learning with vocational pathways, helping learners develop practical skills, confidence, independence and employability. Ages 14-19, this is a permanent position.
The Motor Vehicle pathway gives learners the opportunity to develop hands-on automotive knowledge and practical workshop skills, including vehicle inspection, maintenance, fault identification and basic servicing. Must hold minimum of Level 2 in Motor Vehicle.
The Role as a Practical Tutor:
As a Motor Vehicle Tutor / Mechanic, you will:
- Deliver engaging practical Motor Vehicle sessions.
- Teach learners basic vehicle maintenance, servicing and workshop skills.
- Support students to understand vehicle components and identify faults.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and practical activities.
- Adapt sessions to suit different abilities and learning needs.
- Promote safe working practices and maintain a safe workshop environment.
- Build positive relationships with young people who may have SEMH, SEND or barriers to education.
- Encourage confidence, independence, teamwork and employability skills.
- Support learners to develop skills that can lead towards further education, apprenticeships or employment. Work as part of the wider education team to support learners' progress.
The Ideal Motor Vehicle Tutor:
We are looking for someone who is:
- An experienced Mechanic, Vehicle Technician, Motor Vehicle Technician or Automotive professional.
- Confident with practical vehicle maintenance and workshop tasks.
- Passionate about sharing their knowledge with young people.
- Patient, approachable and able to build positive relationships.
- Comfortable working with young people who may have challenging behaviour or additional needs.
- Able to make practical learning engaging and accessible.
- Teaching experience or a teaching qualification is advantageous but not essential - strong industry experience will be considered.
- Reliable, professional and committed to supporting young people to achieve.
This role would suit a Mechanic, Vehicle Technician, Automotive Technician, Motor Vehicle Tutor, Motor Vehicle Instructor or Automotive Lecturer looking to move into education.
