Pay: Β£100-Β£125 per day, depending on experience

GSL Education Hull are currently seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a small specialist educational setting in Market Weighton, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated SEND. The school supports pupils aged 11-16 and provides a personalised environment designed around their individual needs.

The school provides a nurturing, specialist and highly individualised learning environment for young people who may have experienced barriers within mainstream education. The focus is on helping pupils re-engage with learning while developing their confidence, emotional regulation, independence and social skills.
The setting offers a practical approach to learning, with opportunities for pupils to develop skills beyond the traditional classroom environment.
The Role as a Learning Support Assistant
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and SEND needs.
- Support pupils to access learning and remain engaged in lessons.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with young people.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
- Help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Support teachers with classroom activities and interventions.
- Maintain clear, consistent boundaries while providing a calm and supportive approach.
- Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

- Patient, calm and resilient when supporting challenging behaviour.
- Confident working with young people with SEMH and/or SEND.
- Able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Compassionate, approachable and a strong communicator.
- Adaptable and able to respond to individual needs.
- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education.
- Experienced in education, care, youth work, support work or a similar environment β transferable experience will be considered.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker or Mentor looking to develop their experience within a specialist SEMH setting.
