GSL Education Manchester is working with a number of welcoming and well-led schools across Greater Manchester who are seeking Behaviour Mentor Teaching Assistants to join their teams. These roles are ideal for those with experience supporting young people with additional needs, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) challenges, or behavioural difficulties.

As a Behaviour Mentor TA, you’ll play a key role in creating a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment, working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to improve engagement and outcomes for students who need it most.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support to pupils presenting challenging behaviour
  • Implement and monitor behaviour support strategies and individual intervention plans
  • Support emotional regulation, positive choices, and re-engagement with learning
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model
  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCOs and external agencies to support pupil progress
  • Contribute to the development of behaviour-focused initiatives across the school
  • Provide feedback on pupil development to staff and parents where appropriate

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with young people with behavioural or SEMH needs (school, care, or youth work background welcome)
  • Knowledge of behaviour regulation strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Confidence managing behaviour in a school or alternative setting
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and resilience
  • A team-player attitude with a calm, consistent approach
