GSL Education are currently working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school in Haringey that is seeking a reliable and hardworking School Caretaker to join their site team on a long-term, full-time basis from January 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker or facilities operative looking for a stable role within a school environment. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities of a School Caretaker:

  • Site Management: Overseeing the maintenance and security of the school premises, ensuring it is a safe and welcoming place for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Caretaker Duties: Performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, minor repairs, and maintenance of school equipment and facilities.
  • Team Management: Managing a small team of support staff, including cleaners and maintenance personnel, to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Health and Safety: Implementing and maintaining health and safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and addressing any potential hazards promptly.
  • Emergency Response: Being the point of contact for emergencies and taking appropriate action to address issues such as fire alarms, heating failures, and security breaches.
  • Communication: Liaising with school staff, contractors, and external agencies to coordinate maintenance and repair work, ensuring minimal disruption to the learning environment.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, expenditures, and equipment inventory.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working as a School Caretaker or in a similar role within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and problem-solving attitude.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and the ability to implement them.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
