GSL Education is seeking a caring and committed Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs within a primary school setting. This role focuses on supporting children across EYFS and Key Stage 1/2 / or Secondary KS3 and KS4 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties. This position is ideal for individuals with experience in SEN, early years, care, or support work who are passionate about helping young children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
  • Assist with phonics, literacy, numeracy, and intervention activities
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Support communication using strategies such as visual supports and Makaton (where appropriate)
  • Assist with EHCP targets and learning plans
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and parents
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times

Primary SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements

  • Experience supporting children with SEN (Autism, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN, etc.)
  • A calm, nurturing, and patient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young learners
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child development
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply through GSL Education)
