GSL Education Hull is proud to be recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to work on a direct contract within a 14–19 SEND – Vocational pathway School in Hull. This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate, resilient, and motivated individual who is passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in an alternative education setting. The provision focuses on re-engaging learners, building confidence, and supporting progression into further education, training, or employment.

The Role as a Learning Support Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students aged 14–19 with SEND
  • Support learners with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and additional learning needs
  • Assist with behaviour regulation, emotional support, and engagement
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Help students develop life skills, independence, and employability skills
  • Support learning both in the classroom and through practical, vocational activities

The Ideal Candidate for a Learning Support Assistant Role:

  • Experience working with SEND and/or Alternative Provision (education, care, youth work, or similar)
  • A calm, patient, and relationship-focused approach
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people
  • Team player with a proactive and flexible attitude

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Team Teach / PMVA or similar training
  • Experience supporting learners aged 14–19
  • Background in SEMH or trauma-informed practice
