GSL Education are seeking an ambitious and resilient Assistant Headteacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision / SEND setting supporting learners aged 14–19 within a vocational education environment. This permanent leadership role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong commitment to inclusion, behaviour, and improving outcomes for young people with additional needs. SENCO responsibility desirable, but not essential.

The Role as an Assistant Headteacher

As Assistant Headteacher, you will support the Headteacher in the strategic and operational leadership of the provision. You will help drive high standards across behaviour, teaching and learning, safeguarding, and staff development, while embedding an inclusive, trauma-informed culture.

Key Responsibilities for an Assistant Headteacher

  • Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the provision
  • Lead on an identified area such as behaviour, inclusion, attendance, or curriculum
  • Support staff performance, development, and wellbeing
  • Promote high-quality teaching and vocational learning pathways
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers, local authorities, and external agencies
  • Ensure safeguarding, SEND, and AP statutory compliance

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
