We are looking to appoint a General Learning Mentor to join our School in Dorchester, supporting young people who need a more personalised approach to education.

About the school

The School provides alternative provision for students who have been referred for a variety of reasons that have made attending mainstream school difficult. We work closely with local schools and local authorities, with students referred from across Dorset. Our aim is to re-engage learners, build confidence, and support both academic and personal development in a safe, nurturing environment.

The Role

  • Support students with their learning, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
  • Work with individuals and small groups to promote positive behaviour and routines
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and motivation in learning
  • Support classroom activities and practical learning sessions
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff

About You

  • A caring, patient, and resilient individual
  • Passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to education
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience working with children, young people, or SEN is desirable but not essential
