This forward-thinking school places practical learning at the centre of its curriculum, enabling students to explore real-world design concepts through hands-on projects. With a well-equipped DT department and strong leadership support, the school encourages students to develop technical knowledge and create products with purpose and impact.
As a Teacher of Design Technology, your role will extend beyond delivering content — you will help students develop resilience, critical thinking, and technical craftsmanship while gaining confidence in applying design solutions to everyday challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver a high-quality DT curriculum across Key Stages (KS3–KS4 and KS5 if applicable), specialising in product design, resistant materials, graphics, or engineering.
- Practical Development: Lead safe and engaging workshops that allow students to experiment with a range of tools, equipment, and modern technology such as CAD/CAM.
- Assessment & Feedback: Track and evaluate student progress through design portfolios, prototypes, written assessments, and participation, ensuring learners achieve their full potential.
- Student Engagement: Inspire students by showcasing the importance of design in everyday life, linking learning to modern industries including architecture, engineering, and manufacturing.
- Classroom & Workshop Management: Maintain a safe, organised, and well-resourced environment that supports practical learning and responsible use of machinery and materials.
- Professional Growth: Take part in CPD and keep up to date with the latest technological advancements and DT education practices.
The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent – PGCE/BEd/Relevant DT Degree).
- Experience teaching Design Technology at secondary level (A-Level desirable).
- Strong technical expertise and confidence using workshop tools, machinery, and design software.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate students of varying abilities.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to supporting the wider department.
- DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
