As an Art Teacher, your role will extend beyond lesson planning — you will play a crucial role in shaping the artistic confidence of young people, helping them refine their creative skills and pursue their future aspirations in the arts and design sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver a high-quality Art curriculum across Key Stages (KS3–KS4 and KS5 if applicable), covering drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, and art history.
  • Practical Development: Facilitate engaging studio-based lessons that promote originality, experimentation, and mastery of different artistic techniques.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Monitor and evaluate student progress through sketchbooks, coursework, portfolio assessments, and participation, providing constructive feedback to support artistic growth.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire creativity by exploring cultural, social, and historical influences in art and connecting learning to real-world creative industries.
  • Classroom & Studio Management: Maintain a safe, well-resourced, and inclusive art environment that encourages collaboration, independence, and responsible use of equipment.
  • Professional Growth: Engage in CPD opportunities and remain up to date with contemporary art practices and educational approaches.

The successful Art Teacher will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent – PGCE/BA in Art & Design or related discipline).
  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level (A-Level experience desirable).
  • Strong subject knowledge and practical skills across a variety of artistic disciplines.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and creative ambition in students of all abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to collaborative teamwork.
  • DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
