Salary: GBP84 - GBP110 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are working with an excellent secondary school in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA). In this vital role, you will help students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential. You will be working with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, both in and out of the classroom. Your role will involve assisting with learning activities, promoting positive behaviour, and helping pupils manage their emotions so they can engage fully with school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Support the delivery of lessons, adapting resources where necessary.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Promote a calm, structured environment to encourage learning.
  • Help students develop resilience, self-regulation, and coping strategies.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support interventions.
  • Liaise with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, youth work or similar.
  • Experience supporting secondary-aged students with SEMH needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management and trauma-informed approaches.
  • A nurturing, calm, and patient manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced school environment.
  • A valid, enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
