GSL Education is seeking dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in schools across Sunderland. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering structured and engaging lessons.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support individual education plans.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
