GSL Education is currently recruiting experienced and reliable Exam Invigilators to work in secondary based schools across Birmingham during the busy summer examination period (end of April to June). Shift times are typically a full day between 8am - 3.30pm or half day between 8am - 12.30pm. We are seeking committed individuals who are available to work throughout the six-week exam season and can adhere to a fixed examination timetable. If you are confident, organised, and capable of maintaining a professional exam environment, we would be pleased to hear from you.
As an Exam Invigilator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and smooth running of the examination process. Following completion of training, you will be expected to confidently supervise and manage an examination room independently. Training will be provided by GSL Education, and all examinations must be conducted in line with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Before Examinations
- Report to and receive briefing from the Exams Coordinator prior to each session.
- Ensure confidential exam papers and materials remain secure at all times.
- Prepare examination rooms in accordance with required guidelines.
- Admit candidates into the exam room.
- Verify candidate identity, allocate seating, and provide instructions.
- Distribute the correct examination papers and materials.
- Respond to candidate queries appropriately and professionally.
- During Examinations
- Supervise candidates at all times, remaining vigilant throughout the session.
- Maintain a calm and disruption‑free environment.
- Handle emergencies, irregularities, or incidents in accordance with regulations.
- Record and report any issues or breaches of exam protocol.
- Complete attendance registers accurately.
- Respond to candidate questions in line with JCQ guidelines.
- After Examinations
- Instruct candidates on exam completion procedures.
- Collect and organise exam scripts.
- Ensure candidate details on scripts match attendance registers.
- Securely return all exam materials to the Exams Coordinator.
- Dismiss candidates in an orderly manner.
- Attend required training, update, or review sessions.
Additional duties may include:
- Supervising clash candidates between sessions.
- Supporting access arrangements (e.g., acting as a reader or scribe – full training provided).
- Assisting with other examinations‑related administrative tasks as required.
- Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service. (Support can be provided to obtain a DBS if required – this takes typically 3 weeks to arrive once applied)
- Two educational references to complete clearance with GSL Education.
- Completion of mandatory exam invigilation training within 48 hours of registration.
- Must be available 5 days a week over the 6 weeks exam season period.
