About the School:

The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operates enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of horticulture lessons and practical sessions in areas such as planting, propagation, garden maintenance, and sustainable growing.
  • Assisting instructors in managing greenhouses, gardens, and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Supervising students during hands-on tasks, ensuring safety and encouraging teamwork and responsibility.
  • Helping maintain tools, equipment, and horticultural areas to ensure a safe and productive environment.
  • Encouraging students to engage in enterprise projects that promote environmental awareness and employability.
  • Providing guidance and support to learners as they develop practical skills and confidence in horticulture.
  • Collaborating with teaching staff to create engaging, inclusive, and practical learning experiences.

Candidate Expectations:

  • A strong interest in horticulture, gardening, or plant science.
  • Experience working in a horticultural setting or similar outdoor environment.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and supporting learners in a hands-on, practical way.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage students.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to assist with manual outdoor tasks.
