The Senior Director, Global Packaging has an annual spend accountability of up to ~£500m (global sourced packaging & provide key inputs for regional packaging) & contribute towards £150m spend in Materials for CMO. This role is a part of Global Direct Procurement.

This role is responsible for leadership of the Procurement teams on a global scope for packaging-related categories of spend, and is accountable for the quality, service/ supply risk and cost of all packaging materials and services procured for the sites. The geographic scope of the role is Global with an organisation of ~12 resources covering Category scope Primary and Secondary packaging across 3 regions (23 Haleon sites). The role also influences indirectly regional OU packaging buying resources and provides overall guidelines and strategy.

This is a high impact, high complexity role with significant scope that spans across multiple categories and suppliers.

In this role you will…

  • Drive the creation, execution and management of comprehensive sourcing strategies for spend categories, in a matrix approach with Global Categories in order to best meet the needs of the operating units in region.
  • Collaborate and align with other Procurement leaders and teams within the region and/or globally to understand and adopt best practices.
  • Manage 3 year category strategy roadmap.
  • Be responsible for COGs delivery including Savings, service, Quality.
  • Strategically engage with and understand the business requirements of stakeholders and business partners and to position the Procurement value proposition, on local, regional and global levels.
  • Ensure Haleon Procurement policies, procedures, processes, systems and methodologies are utilized in a compliant manner in the area of responsibility.
  • Accountable for the quality, service/ supply risk and cost of all packaging materials and services for manufacturing sites and operating units.
  • Accountable for creating and implementing Procurement strategies and initiatives which improve quality and service/ supply risk and deliver significant cost savings across business units and supply networks.
  • Accountable for ensuring contract coverage for globally owned spend.
  • Accountable for ensuring ideation with the SCs and Sites of new value creation projects (innovation, savings, quality, service/ supply risk) and for partnering with them for optimal OTIF delivery.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of professional sourcing staff, located in multiple countries, to ensure effective performance of in the scope of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • People leadership: Lead and direct a Procurement team across multiple countries within a region.
  • Develop and implement effective ways of working across the region, OUs and Category team to ensure a cohesive approach.
  • Ensure appropriate communication strategy across BUs and Category teams is in place and in use.
  • Develop the team and individual capabilities from both technical and behavioural aspects.
  • Act and Role Model leadership qualities in keeping with Haleon values.
  • Build high-performing teams, championing those that drive both the ‘WHAT’ and the ‘HOW’ linking high-performance to Haleon performance management criteria.
  • Create a truly inclusive culture and diverse teams.

Business partnering & stakeholder management in Haleon: Build strategic relationship with a network of senior Haleon local/regional/functional/site stakeholders, to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement’s value proposition.

Influence key stakeholders and business partners to support strategy development endorse recommend strategies, support execution and agree how benefit delivery will be budgeted.

Strategy execution: Align with global category team and work in collaboration with these them to provide local business requirements and market information to support effective collaborative regional and global strategy creation and execution.

Execute sourcing strategies for spend categories in scope of responsibility aligned with the requirements of stakeholders and business partners.

Deliver benefits identified in strategies, local, regional and global, through effective and collaborative strategy execution, aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), quality, service, cost and innovation.

Benefit delivery: Support category lead in the creation and delivery of effective regional savings targets agreed with key stakeholders and Finance in accordance with the agreed Savings Methodology.

Drive operational efficiency: Challenge requirements and educate stakeholder to drive maximum contract and PSL compliance.

Drive operational simplification across the categories and procurement processes in scope.

External supplier relationships: Build strategic relationships with key regional/local suppliers at a senior level and lead processes to ensure value is driven from these relationships. Ensure local considerations are accounted global & regional supplier relationships.

Ensure regional considerations are taken into account in global supplier negotiations and contracts.

Manage the supply base for the categories within scope through a robust performance management process. Ensure supplier performance is understood and measured.

Negotiate, create, execute and manage effective regional/local contracts with suppliers that will allow Haleon to maximize opportunity.

Develop and Implement Operational excellence strategies and plans for key regional/local suppliers to drive improvements against KPIs.

Supply chain & risk management: Transform the supply chain to release value and make Haleon more responsive to business and customer needs in close collaboration with Global category teams.

Identify and manage significant risks in the regional/local supply chain. Ensure appropriate mitigation plans are in place and in use and that the risks are communicated appropriately within business units impacted, Procurement and the supply base.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Preferred Level of Education: Master’s Degree.
  • Area of Specialization: Procurement/ Supply Chain/ Engineering/ Science/ Business/ Finance.
  • Minimum Level of Job-Related Experience Required: Significant (15+ years) professional Procurement experience in a comparable large, complex company.
  • Significant leadership experience (5+ years at Director level or above).
  • Strong capability to execute; this is core to the role.
  • Strategy development and implementation; strong value creation capability.
  • Strong stakeholder management and strategic influencing skills.
  • Strong capability to drive accountability.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Strong technical expertise.
  • Demonstrated decision making capability.

  • Contracting experience required, including a thorough understanding of contracting fundamentals and experience with contract planning, negotiation, execution, interpretation and maintenance.
