We manufacture and supply reliable, high-quality medicines and vaccines to meet patients’ needs and drive performance. Our network of 37 sites delivered 1.7 billion packs of medicines and 409 million vaccine doses in 2024.
The role ensures External Manufacturing delivers products to patients through strong engineering performance at Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) sites, supporting new product introductions, business development deals, and existing GSK products.
Responsibilities- Accountability for a portion of the 150‑site External Manufacturing network and related internal Large Molecule Drug Substance sites.
- Engineering performance accountability (equipment uptime, safety, quality compliance) through site visits, audits, and virtual engagement.
- Oversight of key capital project delivery to enable new product launches and supply continuity.
- Act as Large Molecule Drug Substance Engineering Subject Matter Expert for internal and external sites.
- Lead programs to support External Manufacturing strategic objectives such as safety improvements, waste elimination and cycle‑time reduction.
- Deliver improvement programs including Extractables & Leachables, PFAS, and obsolescence management.
- Provide engineering input into recommendations from the Global Supply Chain Strategy team.
- Possible ownership of the External Manufacturing capital plan.
- Build engineering capability of the External Manufacturing team and external sites.
- Collaborate with Smart Manufacturing and the Technology team to integrate Engineering activities.
- Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or an associate degree with relevant experience in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Automation engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering roles focused on Large Molecule Drug Substance.
- Project or program delivery of large capital projects.
- Experience with GSC Engineering Policies, Standards and the Project Management Framework.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering.
- Experience in Drug Product Engineering.
- Experience in conjugation projects/operations.
- Experience in small molecule – primary and secondary production, including API/high‑toxicity manufacture.
- Capital project delivery experience at a Large Molecule Drug Substance/Drug Product site.
- Experience with GSC EHS Standards.
- Experience with broader site/central engineering roles covering utilities, compliance and facilities.
- Experience working with external manufacturing sites.
- Relationship management across internal, external teams or companies worldwide.
Hybrid working model with a mix of on‑site and remote work. Requires approximately 25% domestic and international travel depending on business requirements.
