We are a specialist pharmaceutical company 100% dedicated to developing medicines to treat and prevent HIV. Born out of a partnership between GSK and Pfizer in 2009, with Shionogi joining in 2012, our ambition is to end the HIV epidemic.

The Patient Affairs and Pathway Manager will provide strategic leadership for ViiV Healthcare’s medical engagement across priority accounts and external stakeholders. This role integrates scientific expertise with strategic account management to ensure optimal implementation of ViiV’s therapeutic portfolio and advocacy objectives. A key focus will be supporting the UK Long-Acting Powerhouse strategy, ensuring medical alignment with commercial objectives and driving sustainable partnerships that improve outcomes for people living with HIV and those who may benefit from PrEP.

Responsibilities
  • Medical Leadership and Team Development
    • Lead and develop a medical field team comprising two Medical Nurse Advisors, ensuring excellence in scientific engagement and compliance with ViiV standards.
    • Establish clear performance objectives, monitor KPIs, and implement succession planning to build long-term capability.
    • Foster a culture of scientific integrity, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
  • Strategic External Engagement
    • Design and execute a national external engagement and advocacy strategy aligned to therapy area priorities.
    • Build and maintain relationships with Patient Advocacy groups, External Experts, NHS decision-makers, and Professional Bodies to support evidence-based practice and policy development.
    • Organise and lead advisory boards, scientific workshops, and educational programmes to disseminate clinical data appropriately and share best practice.
  • Account Strategy Integration
    • Act as the medical lead for strategic accounts, partnering with Regional Business Managers and Key Account Managers to embed medical insights into account plans that support strengthening clinical care pathways.
    • Ensure medical engagement supports long-term partnerships and addresses system-level challenges in HIV care and prevention.
    • Utilise data and environmental intelligence to inform prioritisation and resource allocation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with all the members of the medical team to align medical strategy and account planning.
    • Collaborate with global franchise, R&D, market access, and commercial teams to co-create solutions for healthcare system needs.
    • Provide strategic input to critical issue management and national scientific communication plans.
  • Compliance and Governance
    • Ensure all interactions with healthcare professionals adhere to ABPI Code of Practice and ViiV governance standards.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of engagement activities and uphold transparency requirements.
Qualifications
  • Degree in life sciences or equivalent; advanced scientific qualification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in medical affairs leadership within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth understanding of UK healthcare systems, and HIV therapy landscape.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and influence senior stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks and ethical engagement principles.
  • Ability to travel extensively within the UK (up to 50%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in HIV or infectious diseases.
  • Track record of developing external advocacy strategies and shaping policy discussions.
  • Expertise in scientific communication and facilitation of high-level advisory forums.
  • ABPI Signatory status or eligibility for signatory accreditation.
