Location: GSK Headquarters, UK – Hybrid (2–3 days on-site per week)

As part of the Specialty Medicines team within the Chief Patient Officer Business Unit, we focus on delivering innovative treatments that address complex and rare conditions, improving outcomes and transforming lives for patients who need it most. This is a unique opportunity to shape the medical strategy for our specialty medicine portfolio, driving excellence in scientific engagement, and ensuring that patient needs are at the heart of every decision. You will collaborate across functions, providing medical leadership to support the development and delivery of therapies that make a difference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, manage and develop the medical therapy team in Specialty COPD, ensuring achievement of company objectives.
  • Set ambitious business objectives and priorities; conduct appraisals to drive performance.
  • Create a working environment conducive to successful implementation and team development.
  • Collaborate with line reports and broader therapy‑aligned team members (e.g., Marketing, Regulatory, Quality) to generate and implement high‑quality medical strategic and tactical plans that address patient, customer, and business needs.
  • Plan ahead and manage resource and capacity of the team based on the understanding of priorities, in collaboration with the Medical Head.
  • Uphold the highest compliance standards and provide authoritative opinions on medical and ethical matters to support colleagues across GSK, enabling the evidence‑based use of GSK medicines and compliance with statutory requirements (e.g., ABPI Code of Practice, Medicines Act, EU Directives).
  • Accountable for review, examination and/or certification of materials under the team’s scope.
  • Oversee and write GSK’s response to complaints from bodies such as PMCPA or MHRA, engaging with extended brand team members.
  • Ensure oversight of free‑of‑charge supply requests.
  • Own and deliver the medical aspects of the therapy area business plans, including evidence generation plans, patient advocacy, and engagement, working closely with colleagues across GlaxoSmithKline UK and relevant above‑country teams.
  • Co‑ordinate and utilize specialist knowledge with therapy‑aligned colleagues to formulate and implement short‑ and long‑term medical strategies for optimal benefit to patients, prescribers, and GSK.
  • Lead medical plan incorporating omni‑channel strategy.
  • Deliver high‑quality, tailored external engagement across the healthcare system and through strategic medical partnerships to develop insight and understanding of the value of our medicines now and in the future.
  • Influence evidence generation strategies in support of UK market needs, supporting research activities, including knowledge of UK clinical practice, care pathways, key competitors and input into study allocation process and implementation of studies in the UK.
  • Input into development of local protocols and patient information leaflets, including sign‑off of risk/benefit statement and named patient programmes.
  • Proactive input into European Medical meetings to ensure UK strategy is supported.
  • Establish relationships and build trust with investigators, providing relevant training on GCP and addressing study issues.
  • Provide input into post‑study analysis where required.
  • Identify opportunities for GSK involvement in activities that support patients and benefit the NHS.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A GMC‑registered doctor or a GPhC‑registered pharmacist with significant experience as an ABPI final signatory.
  • Relevant and proven expertise in COPD/Respiratory field.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and lead in matrix environments, turning insight into action while inspiring cross‑functional teams.
  • Broad experience within the pharmaceutical industry, with a deep understanding of medical affairs and scientific engagement.
  • Stakeholder management: extensive experience managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including Key External Experts and global partners.
  • Strategic collaboration: a proven track record of working as a strategic partner across functions and with above‑country stakeholders.
  • Experience with health technology assessment (HTA) submissions and appraisal processes.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate teams of medical and scientific professionals.
  • Relevant experience with above‑country teams for both launch and pipeline assets.
  • Experience with digital tools and platforms, including designing and executing medical digital and technology plans to enhance patient and healthcare engagement.
  • Experience driving innovation in medical affairs through new approaches to patient advocacy, healthcare partnerships, and evidence‑based decision‑making.
