The RIIRU & TDS Strategy team sits within the Respiratory Immunology and Inflammation Research Unit (RIIRU) and Translational and Development Sciences (TDS) organisation and partners directly with the SVP RIIRU & TDS and the VP, RIIRU & TDS Strategy to shape and deliver organisational, disease area and asset-level strategy.
We are looking for a Senior Director to work closely with the VP on core strategic initiatives across priority disease areas, while also supporting the wider RIIRU/TDS organisation. This is a senior, high-visibility role for someone who combines strong scientific and analytical judgement with the rigour and delivery discipline of a top-tier strategy background.
Key Responsibilities- Lead strategic initiatives for the organisation where the audience is R&D Leadership Team and Executive Committee level.
- Interpret clinical trial data and external literature to surface strategically material signals that inform asset positioning, investment cases and portfolio trade-offs.
- Own the investment case for one or more priority initiatives.
- Provide hands-on strategic and analytical support to RIIRU project teams ahead of key governance forums.
- Support delivery of priority technology programmes tracking progress, resolving cross-functional blockers and reporting status to leadership.
- Build and maintain investment and business cases for priority capabilities and initiatives.
- Act as a day-to-day interface with external partners, collaborators, consultants and advisors, and supporting senior-level engagements.
- Support the RIIRU/TDS operating model and governance cadence, deputising for the VP in relevant forums as required.
- Lead discrete accelerated special projects end-to-end including management of external consulting support where used.
- Coach and develop junior strategy team members and dynamically-assigned contributors on special projects, maintaining consistent quality and evidentiary standards across outputs.
- Bachelor's degree in a life science, biomedical or related scientific discipline.
- Significant combined experience across top-tier strategy consulting and R&D at a major pharmaceutical company, including direct exposure to pharma R&D strategy work (e.g. asset strategy, pipeline prioritisation, trial design or data interpretation).
- Hands-on experience in using AI/ML approaches to R&D.
- Experience in relevant disease areas including respiratory, metabolic, etc.
- Demonstrated experience building board- or investor-grade strategic materials, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Track record of leading complex, ambiguous projects to a clear recommendation and handover.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams, building trust with scientific, commercial and external stakeholders.
- Master's, MBA or other relevant postgraduate qualification.
