Job Purpose
To support the EHS Manager in delivering a safe, compliant, and high-performing environment across the site. The role is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) programmes, with a particular focus on Machinery, Process, and Electrical Safety. The role will drive a proactive EHS culture, ensuring risks are effectively managed and regulatory and Haleon standards are consistently met, while supporting the site Duty Holders responsible for Machinery and Process Safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • EHS Compliance & Risk Management: Lead the management and continuous improvement of Machinery, Process, and Electrical Safety programmes, including associated site Communities of Practice. Represent the site at Haleon regional and global forums for Machinery, Process, and Electrical Safety programmes ensuring 2-way communication between site and Haleon SMEs and compliance to Haleon EHS standards is maintained. Manage and coordinate the site Risk Management System, ensuring effective input from site leadership, EHS, Duty Holders, Subject Matter Experts, and operational teams. Conduct gap analyses against Haleon and local standards, and develop mitigation plans to address identified risks and gaps. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and Haleon EHS standards.
  • Monitoring, Audit & Assurance: Carry out regular inspections, audits, and site walkthroughs to monitor performance against EHS standards and identify areas for improvement. Support internal and external EHS audit activity and follow-up on corrective and preventative actions. Provide guidance to the EHS Manager on the effectiveness and suitability of existing control measures.
  • Incident & Emergency Response: Support the timely reporting and investigation of incidents and unsafe conditions, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective and preventative actions are implemented. Contribute to Emergency Response, Spill Response, Crisis Management frameworks, and Business Continuity planning.
  • Culture, Engagement & Capability: Promote a strong, proactive EHS culture across the site through engagement initiatives and awareness campaigns. Drive employee engagement in EHS programmes, with a particular focus on Machinery Safety. Ensure EHS processes are embedded and consistently applied across all site activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Essential: Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline, or relevant practical experience. NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent). Strong knowledge of Machinery Safety principles. Understanding of Process Safety and Electrical Safety.
  • Desirable: Experience contributing to Duty Holder governance frameworks. Additional EHS qualifications or certifications.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience managing health and safety programmes within a regulated environment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or R&D laboratory setting.
