The primary goal of the Regional EHSW Leader is to protect employees, communities, and the environment across the region by ensuring that EHS risks are systematically identified, effectively managed, and continuously reduced. This role ensures regional compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as Haleon policies and standards related to air, water, soil, waste, occupational health, safety, and sustainability. The role reports into Europe EHS and Engineering leader.
The role provides leadership, coaching, and oversight to European LT, Site SLT and EHS teams, ensuring strong risk management, regulatory compliance, and a proactive safety culture across all regional operations. The role is to drive systemic improvements and change to achieve sustained results.
This role sets and clarifies expectations for how the portfolio of EHS risks should be managed. This role creates and uses a variety of risk management and assurance processes to understand if the EHS standards are being met and communicates progress towards their implementation to senior leaders and where appropriate, external stakeholders. This role also leads the creation and execution of the EHS strategy and the teams responsible for the programmes, services and technical expertise that address and support the communication, implementation, and measurement of progress towards the company’s EHS ambition.
With an understanding of the business context and external environment, the role holder will apply their knowledge to build and co-create and maintain appropriate and proportionate global solutions that are compelling, non-burdensome, at point of use and will prompt implementation before EHS risks become issues that lead to disruption of our R&D, Supply Chain and Commercial activities, harm to our employees, harm to the communities and local environments in which we operate. The role holder will network with peers internally and externally and work collaboratively to gauge the need for new or changes to existing programmes/services and risk management whether retained in-house or outsourced.
In addition to their technical expertise, the individual needs to be credible and inspire regional, site and functional leadership teams (to VP or SVP level) to embrace the value of EHS programmes and risk management. Continuing the theme of achieving more, while the primary focus is to protect and effectively manage the business EHS risks, the successful candidate will be expected to help support other priorities, where needed. This role is seen as a key contributor to the talent pipeline with the expectation that after a few years in the role, the person will move on to other senior leadership roles in the business or its support functions.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide regional leadership and governance for EHS performance, monitoring and reporting key indicators, identifying trends, and continuous improvement across all sites/locations in the region.
- Ensure regional EHS objectives, targets, and improvement plans are in place and aligned with corporate EHS strategies, priorities, and long-term sustainability goals.
- Lead and oversee investigations of serious EHS incidents, high-potential events, and significant near misses across the region, ensuring consistent root cause analysis and effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote and apply advanced risk management methodologies, ensuring risks are proactively identified, assessed, and controlled. Oversee the closure of audit, inspection, and regulatory findings across the region.
- Drive and continuously strengthen the EHS and safety culture across the region, ensuring safe behaviours, leadership accountability, and employee engagement are embedded in daily operations.
- Ensure regional implementation and consistent application of Haleon Policies, Standards, and the Internal Control Framework, translating these into effective site-level management systems.
- Provide regional oversight of EHS budgets and resource planning, ensuring appropriate investment in risk reduction, compliance, and capability development.
- Lead and support regional crisis management and emergency preparedness programs, ensuring effective business continuity, loss prevention, and resilience across sites.
- Drive integrated environmental management across the region to reduce environmental impacts, improve sustainability performance, and support Haleon’s environmental commitments.
- Partner with Shared Services and Functions (e.g. Quality, Engineering, Continuous Improvement, HR, IT, Procurement, Sustainability, Legal and third-party partners) to ensure EHS is fully integrated into regional strategies, risk mapping, and business continuity planning.
- Build with HR and Global network the Regional Wellness Strategy and program; Create joint governance and drive the development through to execution.
- Foster collaboration and networking among EHS professionals across sites and regions, bringing outside in, enabling best practice sharing, standardization, and professional development.
- Ensure sites have appropriately qualified and competent EHS resources. Coach, mentor, and develop regional and site EHS leaders, supporting succession planning and talent development.
- Champion a culture of transparency and “total disclosure” regarding EHS compliance, audit results, and incidents to ensure learning and improvement across Haleon.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, demonstrating the ability to influence, communicate effectively, and make sound ethical decisions aligned with Haleon’s values.

- Strategic Performance Management: Sets clear performance expectations and aligns site-level execution with regional and global scorecard metrics. Uses data-driven insights to monitor progress and course-correct as needed.
- Problem solving: whilst being mindful of the impact on the Business balance of good analytical skills and planning that enable the role-holder to define a clear pathway with and for the function’s collaborators and customers, engaging primarily with the wider EHS & Operational communities and other business partners. Programs must be innovative, pragmatic, robust and recognizable as valid and workable by across the Haleon world considering different levels of maturity, national cultures and legislatures: this role plays a key part in making that happen.

Basic Qualifications:
- Professional with 15+ years experience with a track record of delivering improvement in EHS outcomes at a site, regional or global level.
- NEBOSH certificate / diploma or equivalent with demonstrated CPD.
- Membership of one or more organizations such as Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, UK Institute of Risk Management, IEMA, IIPD, ASSP, AIHA, IOSH etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical manufacturing or FMG.
- Experience in complex regulatory framework and multiple regulatory bodies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Employee Health & Safety post-graduation certification (ie. Cert, Dip, BSc, MSc or IOSH).
- Project management certification (e.g. Prince 2, PMP).
- Intermediate level fluency in a second language.
