The Global Content Governance and Risk Director is responsible for establishing and leading Hale’s global content governance framework. This pivotal role ensures that all marketing content produced by the Global Content Factory is compliant, effective, and delivered at the speed of culture. The Director will pioneer a new Content Factory model, embedding compliance and legal standards directly into the content creation process while working closely with the VP Global Content Factory.
As a key leader and subject-matter expert within the Marketing Excellence function, this individual will drive the operational strategy for content compliance across all markets, ensuring the company can build its brands with agility, speed, and confidence in a complex global regulatory environment. The role sits in the Marketing Excellence Content Factory team and reports to the VP Global Content Factory. It has a team of 2 direct reports located in different regions to ensure 24-hour responsiveness to governance and risk requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a Global Content Governance Framework: Design, document, and roll out a comprehensive, end-to-end governance model for all marketing content, including clear policies, standards, and workflows for creation, approval, distribution, and retirement that balance global consistency with local market agility.
- SME in global marketing regulations and compliance: Serve as the subject-matter expert on global regulations and laws pertaining to the marketing of consumer health products, staying ahead of changes in advertising standards, data privacy such as GDPR, and requirements from bodies like the FDA and other international agencies, translating them into actionable guidelines for content generation.
- Drive simplification and standardisation of content approval: Work with the Global Content Factory team to develop a tiered risk-assessment process that defines acceptable business risk and builds frameworks and tools to facilitate automated approvals, enabling high-volume production while protecting the company from compliance risks.
- Team leadership: Develop and manage a team of subject-matter experts responsible for content compliance and risk management.
- Capability development: Collaborate with the Marketing Capability team and the L&D team to deliver compliance-related training for relevant individuals at global and OU levels.
- Lead external engagement and advocacy: Act as Hale’s primary representative in discussions with external regulatory bodies, advertising standards councils, and industry associations, monitoring the external landscape, influencing developing regulations, and translating external shifts into proactive adjustments to the internal governance framework and risk appetite.
- Significant experience within the consumer health, pharmaceutical, or a similarly highly regulated consumer-facing industry.
- Expert knowledge of global regulations and laws pertaining to the marketing of consumer health products, including advertising standards, data privacy such as GDPR, and requirements from bodies like the FDA and other international agencies.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing global content governance frameworks and end-to-end approval workflows in a large, matrixed organisation.
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing risk-assessment models for marketing and communications content.
- Experience in leveraging technology to reduce strain on human capacity and manage risk at scale.
- Experience in people management and the development of globally dispersed teams.
- Experience representing a company and engaging with external regulatory bodies, advertising standards councils, or industry associations.
- Experience supporting the development of and delivering capability programmes related to compliance-governance for marketing functions.
