About The Role
Responsible for the safe, efficient, and consistent charging, maintenance, and handling of car batteries and MHE (Material Handling Equipment) batteries within the NDC. The role ensures operational continuity by maintaining battery readiness, supporting warehouse activities, and complying with safety and environmental standards.
Shifts: 06:00-14:00 x2, 14:00-22:00 x2, 22:00-06:00 x2
About You
Key Responsibilities- Battery Charging & Maintenance: Safely charge, discharge, and maintain car and MHE batteries in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and internal processes. Monitor battery condition, water levels, performance, and overall health, ensuring batteries meet operational requirements. Conduct routine inspections to identify faults, damage, or performance issues and escalate where necessary. Ensure correct storage, rotation, and usage of batteries to maximise lifespan and efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines related to battery handling, charging equipment, PPE, and chemical safety. Follow environmental disposal procedures for battery waste and related hazardous materials. Report hazards, near misses, or incidents promptly and support continuous improvement of safety standards. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the battery charging area.
- Equipment Operation: Operate counterbalance forklifts as required (training provided if not already certified). Support warehouse operations where needed, ensuring flexibility across the team.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Log charging cycles, maintenance activity, and battery usage using internal systems. Report performance issues or asset concerns to supervisors in a timely manner. Support audits, stock checks, and compliance reviews related to battery operations.
- Experience in a warehouse, logistics, engineering, or technical maintenance environment (desired but not essential).
- Knowledge of battery technology, MHE equipment, or electrical safety (advantageous).
- Ability to follow technical processes and safety procedures accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Counterbalance forklift licence (or willingness to undertake in‑house training).
- Full training on battery charging, maintenance, and handling procedures will be provided.
- Additional MHE or safety training may be required based on operational needs.
Based within the NDC battery charging area and wider warehouse environment. Manual handling and routine exposure to batteries, electrical equipment, and cleaning/maintenance chemicals (with full PPE provided).
