Overview
The Warehouse Team Leader will be responsible for managing a team of warehouse operatives, ensuring that all operational targets are met, and maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in warehouse operations, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to driving continuous improvement within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: supervise, motivate, and lead a team of warehouse operatives, ensuring a positive and productive working environment.
- Operational Management: oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, order picking, packing, and dispatching of goods.
- Performance Monitoring: monitor and assess team performance against targets and KPIs, providing feedback and addressing any performance issues.
- Inventory Control: ensure accurate and timely stock management, including stock counts, inventory checks, and the proper handling of products.
- Process Improvement: identify opportunities for process enhancements to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize warehouse operations.
- Health and Safety: maintain a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring all team members comply with company policies and legal regulations. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Resource Planning: assist in planning and allocating resources effectively, including managing staff rotas, shift patterns, and workload distribution.
- Training and Development: provide ongoing training, guidance, and support to team members, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
- Quality Control: ensure all orders are processed accurately and meet customer expectations in terms of quality and delivery times.
- Communication: act as the main point of contact between the warehouse team and other departments, ensuring clear communication and collaboration across the business.
- Problem-Solving: address and resolve operational issues, working closely with the Warehouse Manager and other stakeholders to find solutions.
- Reporting: prepare regular reports on warehouse performance, productivity, and any areas of concern, presenting findings to senior management.
- Shift Coverage: ability to cover the 2pm–10pm shift occasionally (holiday cover), approximately 25–30 days across the year; note this will be in 2026 as this year has been covered.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a similar warehouse team leader or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, including inventory management, order processing, and logistics.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise with colleagues at all levels.
- Proficient in using warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Forklift licence and experience with manual handling equipment are advantageous.
Education and Qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications are preferred, but relevant experience in warehouse management will be considered.
- Health and Safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) are desirable.
