To ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, and best practices across the branch network. The Health and Safety Officer will proactively identify risks, implement safety measures, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all branches comply with current health and safety legislation and company standards.
- Assist in maintaining and updating health and safety policies and procedures.
- Risk Assessment & Audits
- Conduct regular branch audits to identify hazards & risks.
- Carry out risk assessments with the company health and safety team / branch management.
- Carry out PEEPs as required.
- Identify and report on any failing areas or those with potential for improvement.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans.
- Training & Awareness
- Deliver health and safety training to branch staff (TBT’s, e-learning etc.).
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns and engagement.
- Encourage incident reporting in a timely manner.
- Assist in opening new branches / train new branch managers / teams.
- Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; produce detailed reports and recommend improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and compliance documentation.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure branches have up-to-date emergency plans and conduct drills.
- Advise on fire safety, first aid provision, and evacuation procedures.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with branch managers and regional teams to embed safety practices.
- Liaise with external bodies (HSE, insurers) as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential) – working towards Diploma level.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Behavioural safety experience.
- Experience in multi-site health and safety management.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to travel across the branch network (UK travel, barring Scotland).
