To ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, and best practices across the branch network. The Health and Safety Officer will proactively identify risks, implement safety measures, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure all branches comply with current health and safety legislation and company standards. Assist in maintaining and updating health and safety policies and procedures.
- Risk Assessment & Audits: Conduct regular branch audits to identify hazards & risks. Carry out risk assessments with the company health and safety team / branch management. Carry out PEEPs as required. Identify and report on any failing areas or those with potential for improvement. Develop and implement corrective action plans.
- Training & Awareness: Deliver health and safety training to branch staff. Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns and engagement. Encourage incident reporting in a timely manner. Assist in opening new branches / train new branch managers / teams.
- Incident Management: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; produce detailed reports and recommend improvements. Maintain accurate records of incidents and compliance documentation.
- Emergency Preparedness: Ensure branches have up-to-date emergency plans and conduct drills. Advise on fire safety, first aid provision, and evacuation procedures.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with branch managers and regional teams to embed safety practices. Liaise with external bodies (HSE, insurers) as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential) – working towards Diploma level.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Behavioural safety experience.
- Experience in multi-site health and safety management.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to travel across the branch network (UK travel, barring Scotland).
