This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.
The defacto global standards for corporate emissions accounting are currently under review. That means we have a once in a decade opportunity to fix major loopholes in emissions reporting and increase corporate accountability for climate impacts. The Senior Communication Specialist - Corporate Standards will lead the execution of strategic communications activities to increase political and media attention and accelerate real-world action.
In this role, you will grow a wide network of partners to create and engage in media opportunities and build strategic relationships with partners in the communications and climate community across industry, policy, academic, and media spheres. You will devise and deliver projects and campaigns, providing strategic advice, communications and outreach support to partners. Working as part of a global network of communications experts, you will enhance the public debate on corporate climate standards by maintaining trusted relationships with key journalists and stakeholders.
Working under the Senior Advisor, Corporate Climate Strategy & Policy, you will thrive as part of a small but growing team of dedicated professionals. We are looking for a highly driven person with the motivation to independently explore innovative methods for problem-solving, armed with creativity and experience, and the determination to see things through to completion.
How you’ll contribute
- Strategy & Planning
- Design flexible approaches that respond to new opportunities and external environmental changes;
- Contributes expert input to the corporate standards strategy led by senior advisors.
- Implementation & Management
- Delivers communications strategies in alignment with GSCC's established priorities;
- Execute strategic communications activities aligned with objectives, design and disseminate narratives and messages;
- Make appropriate judgements on timing and methods for intervening in public and media debates, seizing opportunities as they arise;
- Collaborate with global networks, adapting audience-specific content;
- Evaluate progress and areas for improvement;
- Collaborate with external partners and manage project progress;
- Relationship Building, Maintenance & Collaboration
- Builds strong relationships with partners in the communications and climate community relevant to project delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with media, journalists, and editors;
- Identify, develop, and build networks of spokespeople and communicators;
- Collaborate with digital teams.
- Information Gathering & Analysis
- Gather and analyse information on corporate climate standards;
- Continuously monitor political and media debates to identify communication opportunities;
- Commission necessary research and analysis.
- Reporting & Evaluation
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on outcomes.

Experience required:
- Extensive professional experience in media relations, communications strategy;
- Proven experience in project management;
- Strong ability to independently research and stay current on climate change and decarbonization topics, with keen awareness of evolving public discourse;
- Experience working in mission-driven environments such as nonprofits, NGOs, foundations, international organizations, or social impact initiatives;
- Knowledge of, and experience working on climate change and energy issues.
