The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly credible safety leader to drive HSE culture and strategic direction at a major energy organisation. This is not a role where you will be fighting for safety to be taken seriously. You will be joining an organisation where safety is genuinely the number one priority, hardwired into the entire Executive and Leadership team. The organisation is in rapid growth mode, with absolute financial and operational stability, backed by a guaranteed order book until at least 2031. If you are looking for a highly visible role where you sit as a true equal on the Senior Leadership Team, shaping the future of a clean energy pioneer, this is it.
The Challenge
As a key member of the site's Senior Leadership Team, you will lead a diverse, 30+ person team encompassing Environment, HSE, Integrity, Business Services, and Occupational Hygiene. Your remit will be vast, fast-paced, and highly complex. You will:
- Take full accountability for HSE strategy across a site that houses 500 core employees, scaling up to 2,000 personnel during major outages.
- Act as a trusted, authentic voice on the Senior Leadership Team, partnering with Operations and Engineering leaders to drive risk reduction and zero-harm initiatives.
- Oversee safety governance for major, highly diverse projects, ranging from active power generation and quarry works, to deconstructing legacy plant assets and managing potential new mega-infrastructure builds on-site.
- Coach, lead, and develop team managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), driving deep accountability and a mature safety culture.
- Manage significant OPEX and CAPEX budgets to invest heavily in asset integrity and safety upgrades.
Who We Are Looking For
We need a strategic thinker who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. You must be comfortable holding your own with strong operational characters, leading with authenticity rather than just quoting the rulebook.
Qualifications:
- You will ideally hold a degree alongside your NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), demonstrating the intellectual capability required for complex regulatory and operational challenges.
- Scale & Leadership: You must have a proven track record of leading double-digit, multi-disciplinary teams in high-hazard, fast-paced environments.
- Resilience & Autonomy: You are comfortable working in a 24/7 operational environment where you are the ultimate point of escalation for safety-critical decisions.
- Industry Background: Experience in power, energy, heavy infrastructure, or highly regulated process industries is essential. You do not strictly need COMAH experience, provided you have led safety in environments where risk assessments are genuinely safety-critical.
