Senior Smart Building Consultant

Initially Hybrid office based near Farnborough, with the required client visits

Salary £60,000 - £80,000 on experience + strong package including car/allowance, pension, progression routes Department Head / AD


GS Solutions are partnered with an independent specialist Smart Buildings Consultancy who provide technical Design, Project & FM Contract Services. Working with large end-users across several industries and management companies providing specialist support. The client is focused on leveraging Smart Systems & technology to improve energy efficiency and carbon reduction. By promoting these strategies alongside engineering and networking they can monitor, control and integrate systems across the built environment. (ACE & BCIA Members)


Currently looking for a Senior Consultant to support an increase in projects & have a long-term impact on the company and strategy across projects.


Senior Smart Building Consultant:


Responsibilities:


  • Technical Surveys & Design: Conduct system condition surveys, feasibility studies, and energy management reviews. Develop concept designs, performance specs, and detailed designs aligned with RIBA stages, including smart building overlays.
  • Client Support & Advisory: Provide product, systems, and application advice; deliver client training; update energy log books; and produce project case studies.
  • Project & Commissioning Management: Manage projects on behalf of clients, including tender evaluations, progress reporting, contract admin, commissioning oversight, snagging, and system testing (FAT/SAT).
  • Collaboration & Development: Maintain CPD, share knowledge internally/externally, and ensure activity is recorded in the CRM for team-wide visibility and continuity.


  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in building services (consultancy/contractor), including design, installation, commissioning, and testing of BEMS, control systems, and smart building technologies. Skilled in smart building visioning, specification development, and performance analysis.
  • Project & Programme Management: Proven ability to manage and deliver complex projects, including technical evaluations, integrated solutions planning, and team leadership.
  • Client & Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with experience representing clients and communicating effectively with senior stakeholders, architects, and contractors. Confident in written and verbal communication.
  • Professional Attributes: Detail-oriented, analytical, and self-motivated with a passion for innovation. Strong IT and numerical skills, collaborative team player, and committed to continuous professional development.


Desired Experience:


  • Qualifications: Minimum HNC in a related engineering discipline (electrical or mechanical); HND or degree in BEMS, Smart Buildings, Building Services, or Electrical & Electronic Engineering is desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of BEMS, control systems, and data integration (e.g. Trend, Tridium, Niagara), gained through hands-on experience with manufacturers, contractors, integrators, or consultancies.
  • Smart Building & IoT Experience: In-depth understanding of Smart Building platforms and IoT technologies (e.g. Niagara, KODE, Vanti), digital estate/cloud services, and network architectures. Familiarity with smart integration methods and features.
  • Professional Development: Industry-recognised training (e.g. BCIA), Smart/Wired Score accreditation (desirable), consultancy experience (desirable), and professional membership (e.g. CIBSE, IET) preferred.
