We are looking for a proactive Multi‑Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering Team at our busy fresh produce site near Ely, Cambs. You will play a vital role in keeping our Celery & Baby leaf production machinery running smoothly, minimising downtime, and ensuring we continue to meet our Service Level Agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely support to minimise disruption caused by machinery breakdowns.
- Conduct maintenance of factory production machinery and equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Prioritise engineering tasks to reduce production downtime.
- Stay up to date with new legislation and techniques, requesting training where needed.
- Seek and implement improvements to safety, systems, efficiency, and reliability.
- Participate in ad‑hoc projects including design and fabrication work.
- Coach, train, and support less experienced team members.
- Manage stock levels of parts and components, ensuring cost‑effective usage.
- Oversee ordering, safe storage, and effective use of engineering parts & consumables.
- Provide advisory services to third‑party/off‑site packers and assist with repairs if required.
- Support and facilitate contractor work on‑site.
- Deputise for the Engineering Manager/Leader when necessary.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in maintaining, fault‑finding & repairing production machinery both mechanically & electrically.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Good attention to detail with a focus on root‑cause solutions.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and system development.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to train, mentor, and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Good organisational skills for stockholding and purchasing responsibilities.
- Flexibility to support projects and provide cover as needed.
What We Offer
- Working hours: 6:00 am to 14:30 am and 9:30 am to 18:00 pm Monday to Friday.
- Weekends 7:00 am to 15:30 pm Saturday & Sunday together – 1 in 3 rotation.
- One day off in the week before & after around the weekend work.
