Apprenticeship Overview

This is a 24‑month fixed‑term Apprenticeship based at Bay of Colwyn Town Hall. The successful candidate will work towards a Level 3 Business Administration qualification while gaining practical experience in local government administration, communications and community engagement. The role offers a supportive learning environment with mentoring and training opportunities. Some evening and weekend work may occasionally be required to support community events and civic activities, with time off in lieu provided. The Apprenticeship provides an opportunity to develop valuable workplace skills and contribute to projects and initiatives that benefit the Bay of Colwyn community. £24,521.28 per annum, 37 hours per week.

Duties

  • Provide day‑to‑day administrative support to Council officers including emails, filing, document preparation, and record keeping.
  • Respond professionally to enquiries from residents, councillors and partner organisations.
  • Assist with the preparation of Council and committee agendas, reports and draft minutes.
  • Support social media activity, website updates and digital communications using Canva and other online platforms.
  • Help organise and support community events, consultations and civic activities including capturing photos and content.
  • Assist with basic finance administration, governance procedures and maintaining accurate Council records.

  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work professionally with residents, councillors and partner organisations.
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Able to work as part of a team while also using initiative when appropriate.
  • An interest in administration, communications, local government or community development would be beneficial.
  • Creative skills, an interest in social media and confidence using digital platforms or Canva are desirable.
  • A flexible approach to supporting occasional evening or weekend community events is welcomed.

Qualifications

  • Applicants should have GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Basic ICT or digital skills qualifications are desirable.
  • Candidates should demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills together with basic IT skills including email, Microsoft Office and online systems.
  • A willingness to learn, develop professional skills and complete the Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience in administration, social media, community activities or customer service would be beneficial but is not essential as full support and training will be provided throughout the Apprenticeship.
