OPTICAL PRODUCT ENGINEER (SUITABLE FOR PHYSICS / ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING GRADUATES)

Based in Livingston, Grw Talent’s client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920. Now part of a global multinational business, their fast growing multidisciplinary scientific and engineering Operations team is looking to recruit an Optical Product Engineer reporting into the Product Manager.

This will likely suit you if you have graduated with a degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering and have a good understanding of Optics. If you have previous research experience using optical spectroscopy techniques or experience at a component level, for example building an optical system in a lab this may be a good fit – especially if you thrive on customer interaction and are happy with regular / monthly international travel.

As a member of the Service & Operations Team, you will act as an ambassador and conduct installation, training and service support visits to the customer-base. You will will also provide technical support, customer feedback and give views on development strategy relating to the growing product range.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct final test, product installation, training and servicing work for fluorescence spectrometer products.
  • Undertake the repair and servicing of fluorescence spectrometer products.
  • Responsible for final-stage testing of spectrometer products within production area.
  • Involved in the continuing development/improvement of luminescence spectrometers and custom designed analytical instrumentation.

Ideally, you’ll have a Bachelor’s degree in a physics or Electrical Engineering with a good knowledge of optics. A higher degree such as an MSc/PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics would be a distinct advantage. Previous research experience using optical spectroscopy techniques such as photoluminescence or Raman spectroscopy/microscopy is a benefit. Experience of these spectroscopy techniques at a component level, such as building an optical system in a lab, would be a particular advantage. Please note you need a willingness to travel. This role requires a level of extended international travel which may be up to 14 nights at any one time. The typical travel expectations are around 7 nights per month (after the initial training period of 6 months).
