Based in Dunfermline / Hybrid – 3 days in the office, Grw Talent’s client is pushing the boundaries of vertical / indoor farming globally. For over thirteen years they have been developing world class vertical farming towers, allowing people to grow a plethora of crops, fruit, plants and bedding plants at scale anywhere in the world. Their mission is to provide green and sustainable ways to feed people where they can control the weather. Ongoing expansion means they now need to make a key hire of a Controls Engineer.
As part of an integrated engineering function working in their R+D centre, the Controls Engineer will have responsibility for producing robust customer ready control systems. You will be refining and adding features to existing SCADA control systems and creating new logic for future machines. Simple motion, safety, routine logic, HMI and IoT communications are implemented on most of their equipment. Reporting to the Electrical & Electronics Systems Leader, you will work across a team spanning multiple disciplines e.g., Research, Hardware and Software Engineering, Supply Chain and Customer Support. Occasional international travel will be required.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Creating PLC code
- Creating documentation
- Developing interface control schematics
- Selecting sensors, mechanical actuators and controls
- Creating test specifications
- Supporting remote commissioning of customer sites resolving major installation problems from site and at the R+D centre
The successful candidate is educated to HNC/HND in engineering and comes with proven experience as a Controls Engineer, PLC Design Engineer or Controls and Instrumentation Engineer. Core experience we would like includes a solid understanding of IEC61131-3 standard PLC development languages with expertise in Ladder Logic; working familiarity with the needs of the Machinery, EMC and Low Voltage directives and the ability to create new schematics and manufacturing files in a package such as Eplan. A working knowledge of Omron PLC systems would be a distinct advantage.
