Job Specification
- Etches specified portions of metal parts used in aircraft manufacturing using immersion equipment, templates, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Reads work orders, blueprints and process specifications to define the location of the etch, finished dimensions and method sequence of operations.
- Clears the surface of parts to ensure uniform adhesion of maskant.
- Applies maskant to surfaces to be etched, scribes etch lines using a template, and removes maskant from etch areas.
- Immerses parts in etching solution for the specified time, manually or using a hoist.
- Removes objects from the solution, rinses them with water, and removes remaining maskant.
- Measures etched parts for conformance to specifications using micrometres, scales, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Immerses parts in successive baths and rinses to perform surface processing in addition to etching, pickling, chromodizing, passivating, degreasing, and stripping, and may be designated a Process Operator.
- Drills and trims parts where required.
- Reports problems or variations against specifications.
- Works to strict quality and health & safety regulations.
- Ensures that work is conducted in a safe environment according to safe practices.
- Maintains a clean work environment.
- Cross‑trains and works in other areas as required.
- Candidates must wear a face‑fit mask for H&S requirements.
