At Grundon, we are on the lookout for a dynamic, passionate, and driven individual to join our Transport team based at our Gatwick depot. Reporting into the Depot Operations Manager, you will play a key role in driving our mission forward by learning to drive and operate a range of waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently, collecting predominantly hazardous clinical waste.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks, reporting and escalating defects in line with legal requirements.
  • Comply with tachograph legislation, WTD, SOPs, and Risk Assessments.
  • Report incidents, near misses, contaminated bins, and non-conforming waste promptly with accurate paperwork.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and complete weekly wheel nut torque checks.
  • Wear and maintain PPE and uniform to required Health & Safety standards.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure punctuality, accurate record-keeping, and completion of duty hours whilst remaining flexible with working hours and support overtime when required.

About You
  • Holds a valid LGV Class 2 (Category C) licence, Driver Qualification Card (DQC), and digital tachograph driver card. Class 1 (C+E) licence is desirable.
  • Experience operating waste collection vehicles is essential.
  • Experience with roll‑on/roll‑off vehicles, skip loaders, and front‑end loaders would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided for suitable candidates.
  • Willingness to learn with the ability to apply new skills effectively.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with strong interpersonal and professional skills.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service in all aspects of work.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and directions accurately.
  • ADR certification desirable; training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Willing to be multiskilled and drive various size/modes of vehicles.
