At Grundon, we are on the lookout for a dynamic, passionate, and driven Operator to join our Waste Collections team based in Banbury. Reporting into the Site Manager you will play a key role in driving our mission forward by maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the transfer station, including the receipt and dispatch of waste in line with the site’s waste management licence. Duties also include operating the weighbridge, greeting Grundon and external drivers, and accurately recording vehicle weight data.
Please Note: The operator seats within our mobile plant vehicles have a manufacturers' guaranteed load bearing weight limit of 140kg (22 stone) and in order to protect our employees' safety when driving mobile plant, we operate a strict weight limit in these roles of 140kg.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage inbound and outbound materials to keep site operations flowing smoothly.
- Act as the banksman, ensuring the safe movement of vehicles at all times.
- Loading outbound vehicles and inspecting incoming waste to ensure full compliance with environmental and licence requirements.
- Completing daily mobile plant checks, carrying out basic preventative maintenance, refuelling at the end of shift, and reporting defects promptly.
- Maintaining accurate plant and site defect reporting systems.
- Operating the weighbridge, producing accurate tickets, and ensuring all load details are correctly recorded.
- Enforcing PPE standards and site rules, signing in visitors, and delivering inductions where required.
- Monitoring compliance, reporting near-misses or safety concerns, and always following site procedures and risk assessments.
- Refusing material acceptance or release when accounts are on hold (unless authorised).
- Keeping the weighbridge office and plant equipment clean, organised, and inspection ready.
- Handling telephone enquiries in a professional manner.
- Working closely with supervisors and colleagues to meet targets while maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant environment.
