At Grundon, we are on the lookout for a Landfill Site Operative to join our Landfill team based in Bishops Cleeve. Reporting to the Landfill Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission by ensuring the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of the Wingmoor Facility, including Wingmoor Quarry Landfill, Wingmoor Farm Landfill, the Wingmoor treatment plant, and all associated infrastructure. All activities must be carried out in full compliance with site permits and operational procedures.

Please note: The operator seats within our mobile plant vehicles have a manufacturers’ guarantee load bearing weight limit of 140kg (22 stone) and in order to protect our employees’ safety when driving mobile plant, we operate a strict weight limit in these roles of 140kg. As part of our application process, you will be required to declare that you do not weigh in excess of this.

What will you do

  • Carry out site operational duties as directed by the Landfill Manager.
  • Ensure all activities comply with site procedures and permit requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment, including housekeeping, litter picking, and dust management.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions to support site operations.
  • Safely operate authorised mobile plant equipment.
  • Complete daily plant checks, report defects, and maintain equipment to agreed standards.
  • Refuel mobile plant and assist with the setup of pumps, pipework, and temporary site equipment as required.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
  • Ensure drivers, contractors, and visitors adhere to site PPE requirements.
  • Report near misses, unsafe conditions, and health and safety concerns.
  • Participate in Toolbox Talks and support the site’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.
  • Willingness to operate computer systems and provide weighbridge cover when required.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures including health and safety and employment.
  • Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as requested by the job holder’s Manager/Supervisor or the Board of Directors that are within the skills and capabilities of the job holder.

About You

  • Experience operating mobile plant machinery is desirable; however, full training can be provided.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high health and safety standards.
  • Basic understanding of site operations and procedures.
  • Proactive in identifying and suggesting improvements within the department or wider organisation.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Packages or ability to undergo training.
  • Good time keeping skills.
  • A basic understanding of the Site’s Environmental Permits.
