Days: Monday – Friday 7:00am- 4:30pm and alternate Saturday 7:00am-11:30am (20% applied learning) .

Please note that working hours may be adjusted depending on the age of the successful candidate.

At Grundon, we are on the lookout for a dynamic, passionate, and driven Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprentice to join our team based in Ewelme.

Working under the supervision of the Workshop Manager and the Company's partner college, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and qualifications required to complete the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.

The successful individual will attend college as required and undertake practical workplace training to develop the knowledge and technical skills needed to carry out Heavy vehicle service and maintenance to a high standard.

  • What will you do
  • Attend college on a regular basis, complete required training modules and study and maintain accurate records to successfully achieve the apprenticeship in line with the Grundon Apprenticeship Scheme requirements.
  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Workshop Manager and the college tutor, develop the required practical and theoretical skills needed in order to learn all aspects of Heavy Goods Vehicle maintenance.
  • Prepare vehicles on a day-to-day basis, ensuring they are clean and ready for scheduled workshop maintenance.
  • Support other Technicians in carrying out vehicle inspections, break down repairs and maintenance of the Company’s vehicle fleet.
  • Take responsibility for the safe storage, care, and appropriate use of the companies tools and equipment.
  • Follow Company processes and procedures regarding completion in the event of incident and near- miss occurrences.
  • Work in a safe and clean manner at all times, adhering to Grundon and relative legislative regulations, processes and procedures.
  • Comply with Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments (RAs).
  • Willingness to be flexible with working hours and provide occasional cover at other sites to meet business and depot needs.

  • You will be supported by a dedicated mentor, with regular progress reviews involving your performance coach and manager.
  • You will be required to attend college and complete practical workplace training to develop the knowledge and technical skills needed to carry out HGV maintenance to a high standard.
  • The apprenticeship programme will be for a minimum of 36 months and follows a structured, comprehensive curriculum.
  • On successful completion, you will achieve a Level 2 & 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician qualification.

About You

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above are desirable.

If you do not already hold these qualifications, you will need to complete a Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications as part of your apprenticeship, where required.

  • A commitment to completing your apprenticeship, including the required 20% off-the-job training.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, with the ability to use your initiative, adapt to changing priorities and take on new tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and confidence using computers and IT systems.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable.
