JOB PURPOSE
To manage the procurement of packaging and aggregate materials across all Building Products bagging plants, ensuring quality, availability, value for money, and continuity of supply. The role will drive cost-saving initiatives, build strong supplier partnerships, provide market intelligence, and support operational and commercial objectives through effective procurement and supply chain management.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties are many and varied, but the list below is considered to be the basic requirement:
- Procurement of all empty packaging and aggregate for all bagging plants within BP.
- Identifying ways to find cost savings through sourcing initiatives.
- Building and maintaining successful partnership and relationships with the supply chain.
- Managing, implementing, and maintaining accurate system records relating to procurement with support from the team.
- Manage supplier performance, ensuring quality, service, availability, and value for money.
- Secure long-term supply arrangements to support customer demand and business growth.
- Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs while maintaining service levels.
- Conduct regular supplier reviews and performance evaluations.
- Resolve supplier issues and supply chain disruptions promptly.
- Monitor market pricing, trends, and competitor activity.
- Provide market intelligence and procurement insights to senior management.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and margin improvement initiatives.
- Work with sales teams to understand customer requirements and procurement opportunities.
- Liaise with operations and transport teams to ensure product availability.
- Support in complaint resolution.
- Support stock management and inventory optimisation.
- Assist in contingency planning for supply shortages and market fluctuations.
- Ensure procurement activities support operational efficiency and customer service targets.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, health and safety standards, and environmental legislation.
- Promote sustainable sourcing practices and support ESG objectives.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and supplier documentation.
- Ensure suppliers meet required quality, legal and ethical standards.
- Prepare and present procurement reports for senior leadership.
- Attend weekly and quarterly sales meetings.
- Responsibility for compliance and discharging legal duties with regards to HR and Health & Safety to promote a safe, equitable and legally compliant work place.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
- Significant procurement experience within aggregates, construction materials, quarrying, or related industries.
- Strong commercial negotiation and contract management skills.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement projects.
- Excellent analytical and financial awareness.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of haulage, logistics and supply chain management.
- Understanding of sustainability and responsible sourcing requirements.
- Commercially astute and results focused.
- Strong negotiator with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-motivated.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Collaborative team player with strong leadership capability.
- Be prepared to travel with occasional overnight stay.
- Full UK driving licence.
